Teaching East Asia: Focus on China, Japan, and Korea

Description: 

This thirty-hour seminar is open to teachers of history, geography, social studies, English/language arts, art, school librarians, and other teachers who desire to incorporate teaching about East Asia into their curriculum. It provides content and resources for teaching about China, Japan, and Korea.

Benefits:
• Learn about East Asia from experts in the field.
• Receive $300 personal stipend and 30 professional development points (upon completion of requirements).
• Receive $130 in course materials.
• Receive subscription to Education about Asia.
• Earn graduate credit (optional).
• Become eligible for subsidized study tour in East Asia (pending funding).

Requirements:
• Intend to teach at least two more years.
• Attend all sessions in their entirety, complete all readings, and assignments.
• Attend a follow-up session in 2012-2013 academic year.
• Develop an implementation plan for incorporating material presented into your teaching.
• Obtain written support from your school administrator stating the school’s willingness to retain the study of East Asia in the curriculum.
