With this first blog post on the new Learning Collaborative website, we are celebrating ten years of professional learning opportunities, an expanding array of services, many successful summer 2011 courses for educators extending into the fall and the arrival of several new programs in the 2011-12 school year.
Sadly, we are also lamenting the destruction produced by heavy rains as a result of Hurricane Irene. Many of our regional schools will open late this fall. Students will have more than the usual difficulties in getting to school via detours around ruined roads. Some communities will be temporarily divided because access from one part of town to another does not exist.
Writing can be a helpful way for students to explore their own feelings and worries about disasters. If your students tell their stories about Irene in words or pictures, please send us some examples. We will post them on this website for others to see. Student photo images and videos are welcome, too!
