"the flow of history"
The Flow of History is a non-profit network of educators, historians,
and others interested in the history of the Connecticut River Valley
and the relevance of history to our lives today as we consider the
major issues of our time. Services are offered to all schools in the
watershed, with particular emphasis on Vermont and New Hampshire towns
from Orford, NH / Fairlee, VT south to the Massachusetts border.
Overall, the goals of the project
are to:
· Identify major eras and themes in
traditional American history.
· Establish challenging curriculum in American
history.
· Interpret local and national primary source
materials by understanding their context within and relation
to themes/topics in American history.
· Develop a collaborative exchange of practice
that improves their work and builds a repertoire of high
quality examples and resource materials.
The Flow of History Network has been awarded a new Teaching American
History grant, the “Freedom and Unity” project, to support professional
development for teachers in U.S. history. The new grant will focus
on the Barre schools and various districts in Lamoille, Caledonia,
and Essex counties as well as southeast Vermont. It will offer teachers
many opportunities such as book groups; lectures, presentations, and workshops;
lesson planning support; summer institutes; and other activities. The
goal of the grant is to increase teachers' content knowledge of national,
state, and local history resulting in increased student achievement
in U.S. history.
